New round in 2 weeks

March 5th, 2009 01:22 GMT in Round

There will be a new round in two weeks, on the Friday morning 00:00 UTC. Go crazy.

Also, please do donate if you can do. There aren't lots of other people donating... and it's needed to keep running the place.

Edit: To be clear, this round will end on Friday 20th March 2009 00:00 UTC. We'll have two days grace period from that time and begin the new round at Sunday 22nd March 2009 00:00 UTC.

Thankyou for letting us know

Like i said on irc i wish to get some Devo comps running if possible, When i get the funds together i'll speak more about it with you.

Thankyou Neon

If you played this game for longer than 1 round you should seriously consider coughing up some cash.

Specially people who haven't donated before - you get a cool new star :)

Any amount will do but the timing has to be now. It's only fair to pay for something you enjoy on a daily basis.

Also, keep clicking on the game ratings site please. Maybe more sites should be added - we need new meat :P

See ya all next round.

King Wolf wrote at March 5th 2009, 06:07:

is it ending in 2 weeks or ending right now?

Mefisto wrote at March 5th 2009, 07:37:

The current round is ending in 2 weeks as per Neons annoucemnt.

However, in order to start the next round server maintenance funds for about 1/2 year in advance need to be secured.

You wouldn't want the next round to end in 2 month, now would you.

Spacephoenix wrote at March 5th 2009, 09:23:

What's the point with ending this round so early when it has plenty of life left, we will loose so many players with this reset.

Akwaman wrote at March 5th 2009, 09:50:

End now and staple Rnb in it's glory!

I own a few domains and hosting accounts - would it be acceptable to donate hosting? It can be arranged for someone to have seperate logins, ftp, and server access....

If not, what's the total donation needed to maintain for the year?

What Xeelee said regarding the total donations...

Lelilianth wrote at March 5th 2009, 12:41:

I would, but am flat broke, and PayPal works not here.

Maxy wrote at March 5th 2009, 19:42:

Neon can you be more specific, at exactly what time does this round end.

Xeelee wrote at March 5th 2009, 23:56:

Another thought on donations - would you accept advertising requests / payments...

Would you accept outside advertising on the site? I can always use another source of leads for some of my online businesses...

Honestly I am gutted that this round is ending so suddenly.

You want me to donate even more than I have already? Then don't kill off rounds when nobody wants it.

I'm angry...

Teraunce The Steeldragon Hybrid wrote at March 6th 2009, 00:50:

I'm neutral on this issue. beyond restarting meaning i will be back up to my alliance's score range, restarting also means a loss of the forums.

Lelilianth wrote at March 6th 2009, 04:38:

Forums can always be saved, Teraunce. In fact, if we get someone with a 500GB~1TB HDD and a rawler-bot/downloader, we could download the entire forum and preserve it for the next round.

Ithryn wrote at March 6th 2009, 06:47:

Fluffy, the reason why this round was to end so quickly was that Neon honestly thought the players wanted it. We had a talk and agree'd that it would be best to give a 2 week warning, alot of people no longer donate since that donation logo has been up the top, and the funds have slowed down dramatically.

There is literally maybe a few pounds left in the donation account. Now people want new features before they donate and things like that, but neon has explained that yes, he once used to code alot, and now codes not that often, because evo has a lower priority in life now. When you live at home and don't need to fund your self, you can code during alot of your time. But now when you do live out of home, you need the other time to be out making money.

People don't need to make a sizable donation, something small will suffice. if everyplayer donated 1 pound, thats a decent start of off a minimum 300 pounds.

The server needs about a minimum of $55-75 pounds a month I think, for the costs. Now of course we would like more than that donated, because there are times that people cannot donate, so its always good to have emergancy money in the kitty.

Of course, it would be foulish to relly on the donations to keep this game afloat, thats just not a smart business plan. So there are adds, adds which alot of people block. But we will be thinking of new ways to help the game make a profit, Neon has several ideas to increase add revenue and I'll hopfully be able to apply some marketing expertise to the matter. But this is not a major amount, it can only fill in a certain % of the amount needed, especially if people keep blocking adds.

I will suggest to neon, that we add a poll up to see if people want the round to continue or end.

Spacephoenix wrote at March 6th 2009, 07:22:

I detailed breakdown of stuff that runs of the server and the costs and revenue would be useful. Could some of the non-evo stuff be offloaded to another server?

Overlytall wrote at March 6th 2009, 09:46:

"The server needs about a minimum of $55-75 pounds a month I think" - Ithryn

Wow... when did the dollar slip past the pound?

$55 USD (40 odd quid to us brits) isn't that much anyway when you count the amount of players on here - but I think I read something somewhere that the ones that donate should be entitled to something extra, especially if they donate regularly (don't hold me to this as I'm terrible when it comes to reading stuff somewhere ).

Illitch Oulianov wrote at March 6th 2009, 12:36:

Neon,

Thanks to give time to time. I hope time will be money at least enough to get the things running.

Red Kcs2c wrote at March 6th 2009, 19:29:

Also, an interesting bit of psychology is that people tend to do what they think everyone else is doing. So saying no one is donating is self-defeating. If anything a plea like "For the love of god slow up the donations before I drown under the cash" might be more lucrative.

Red Kcs2c wrote at March 6th 2009, 19:30:

^^ The above is in jest. I (like millions of other evoers :P ) just donated a few days ago.

I promise to donate the round after next. I just need a rest next round so see you all after that :)

Ikillpenguin wrote at March 8th 2009, 14:50:

If I donate now, do I get the cool star for the next round? or is it just for this one. Either way I'll probably donate this round, cuz I do likes me some war games xP

Ikillpenguin wrote at March 9th 2009, 18:28:

Donated £10.00 GBP (About $13) I can't afford much more than that right now. Actually might set up a subscription next round.

Ikillpenguin, your contribution is a good one, it dosnt matter how much or how little you give, simply given puts you ahead of the others that won't.

And spacepheonix, technically yes, neon could host it with his business, but then it becomes a drain on resources, and no business likes to do things for free.

Sieged wrote at March 11th 2009, 16:44:

I'll donate, but I'm not sure quite how much yet. Still not sure if my roomate is moving in or not, so I dunno if I'll have much money. BTW, I'm excited about the new round. I just recently started playing again after a long break a little while ago, and I feel so far behind right now.

*Edit: OK, I only donated about 5 USD, but that's something. I'll donate more when I know how much money I actually have.

Its all good mate. Like mentioned earlier, if everyone donated $1 then theres a couple of months servers fees paid off already!

Black Silk wrote at March 15th 2009, 07:17:

I want to donate, but I do not have a credit card or any form of cards. So the only way I can donate is by the good old thing called CASH.

Is this ok???? And what details do I need to send some monies through the post????

Ikillpenguin wrote at March 16th 2009, 00:23:

Paradise: You could always pick up a prepaid visa or something somewhere. (I've used Green Dot before, but it's like $15 for a card + what you put on it)

Ithryn wrote at March 16th 2009, 01:16:

I had a chat with neon for you, He dosn't accept cash via the mail, or directly into his bank account. He's had some bad experiances in the past with people trying to sign him up for credit cards etc.

neonDragon Industries has a paypal account tho, and paypal lets you transfer money from your bank, into his paypal account. That would be the best viable option.

You could always hand it to him personally at an evo meet
