Next version of Evolution

December 30th, 2010 12:37 GMT

We're going to open the new version of Evolution up to Evolution 5 players while it is being written, for testing, critique etc.

However, we could open it while it is at Alpha status (not much there, just to give everyone a general idea of where it's going), or Beta status (things are generally working, still unfinished parts and bugs to be worked out).

When would everyone like to be involved?

Superweapon? Doesn't seem so super.

Snow quoted as saying "I made an oopsie."

2310 (BST) - London, England.

In a shocking lavender-scented turn of events tonight (30 July), the continent of Things That Are Fun (1,1,1:c) came into possession of prohibited armaments and, with a declaration of "what does this button do?", unleashed a wave of pink-tinted destruction upon an unsuspecting universe.

"It was a bit of a cock-up, really" says Snow, the rakish head of state. "I thought it would be lulzy, but it turned out to be what our defense department are calling an 'epic fail'."

Questioned about foreign policy and possible restitution, Snow only mentioned that he will not be reimbursing any lost resources and that "them buggers shouldn't be hoarding so much anyway, I mean, surely they should have spent it on something useful?" There was some frantic movement at this point as aides nudged a pile of suspicious magazines further under the podium.

"You must admit though, the colours are pretty."

Further developments as they come in.

Evolution (Beta): Giddy Up

June 25th, 2010 06:11 GMT

We'd like to draw attention to the fact that this round is a Beta round, the first Beta round for a number of years, and the first such round since neonDragon stopped developing Evolution.

What does this mean for me?

There's nothing to worry about. The fact that this round is Beta simply acknowledges the possibility of minor game-altering incidents that may or may not affect your game-plan.

What kind of 'game-altering incidents'...?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to know for sure until such an incident occurred. However, it would likely be something minor such as: Fleet Misplacement... or perhaps just universal amnesia of your continent's scientists resulting in the loss of everything that you had researched. However, there is no chance that there could be an incident as serious as complete erasure of all foru......... oh dear, we have already done that haven't we? In that case, who knows. Giddy up.

dEvo open to testers

July 21st, 2009 20:48 GMT

I'm starting a new project, and I thought that it'd be good if I 'finished' Evolution 5 before moving on. Last time anyone donated was over a month ago, and the ads aren't really paying enough to keep Evo on the internet. I haven't put much effort into Evo for years. So, I've decided that instead of switching it off, I'll finally put some effort into ironing out the issues, change the advertising inside Evo to hopefully get more money in that way instead of relying on donations, and advertise the game on other websites to get a lot more players here. That way, it'll be able to stay on the internet, there'll be more players to play against, and I might actually get something for all my effort over the years for the first time ever. Everyone's happy.

dEvo is the development version of Evolution 5, located at http://ev5-dev.neondragon.net/. It is now open to anyone who wants to help with testing -- login with your usual username and password. If you know of bugs, or you have suggestions for things that can be improved, then now is definitely the time to go into dEvo and make your thoughts known.
